WENGER: ANDY CARROLL’S HEADERS KILLED US

Arsenal Coach, Arsene Wenger has praised the effort of West Ham striker, Andy Carroll after a superb performance against his team. He admitted the striker had a field day as his defenders were unable to deal with crosses.

The Gunners lost out in their Premier League campaign this season with the draw. League leaders, Leicester City went on to defeat Sunderland in a hard-fought away match. Tottenham in second place also defeated Manchester United derailing Arsenal’s EPL title charge.

Leicester City now ahead of The Gunners by 13 points though Arsenal have a game in hand. Arsenal were ahead in the match with goals from Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez at Upton Park. Andy Carroll then started his goal scoring spree sending Westham into the lead but Laurent Koscielny was able to salvage a point for the team.

Arsene Wenger admits that the striker who has now scored seven Premier League goals for West Ham this season was lucky not to have been sent off challenge on Koscielny in the first half.

Wenger admitted that his team’s defense struggled with Carroll’s aerial strength.

“Why did we struggle with Carroll? Because he’s good in the air. We had a good game but a bad result, and we paid for a weakness we have had all season – headers in our box.”

On Carroll’s tackle on Koscielny. Wenger said: “Yes of course, he was lucky to finish the game, but that doesn’t mean we have to concede goals from headers; we have to look at ourselves.” Read more »

Andy Carroll created New Record of Goals

14 goals in 51 appearances, that’s the record that Andy Carroll has created ever since he joined West Ham United back in August of 2012 as the Englishman originally signed a loan deal with the Premier League club but the contract was transformed into a permanent. This decision might not have been a wise one as Carroll is considered to be a huge flop.

€15 million was the transfer fee that West Ham United had to pay in order to sign Andy Carroll permanently as the player made a switch from Liverpool over to West Ham United hoping that he would turn into a regular starter and a prolific goal-scorer, unfortunately for him it never happened.

During Andy Carroll’s first season as a player of West Ham United, he made 24 appearances as he was a regular player for the club but after only managing to score 7 goals, it really wasn’t the dream start that the English forward wanted to have.

The following season things did not get much better for Carroll as he made 15 Premier League appearances and only scored 2 goals.

Andy Carroll is currently injured as he suffered a tear in his medial ligament during West Ham United’s match against Southampton which was played on February of 2015 and after undergoing surgery it has been confirmed that the player will not be able to get back in the playing grounds and perform for his team for the remainder of the season.

This means that his season is over even though the Premier League still has around 2 more months before it concludes. Currently, in this season Carroll has made 14 Premier League appearances and found the back of the net on 5 occasions. Read more »
